First of all, thanks to everyone who weighed in on that all important shoe decision earlier this week. I know I can count on you people to help out in crisis situations such as foot wear.
I’m on “staycation” this week meaning I’ve taken most of the week off in order to “spend quality time” with my children.
Stop laughing.
Yesterdays outing involved going to a water park, getting burnt to a crisp, and forgetting to “hold my butt up” on one of the slides which left my backside as bruised and beat up looking as Tila Tequillas face after being mobbed by a fanatical group of Juggalos. For real.
That last sentence may or may not have sounded wrong…onward…
The fighting started almost immediately and continued the entire ride to the water park. The really good news is they like totally separate rides so for the most part, we were able to keep Mr. C and Miss G far enough away from each other that the park authorities didn’t need to get involved. And then there was this…
You call it a mushroom, I call it the “Cone of Silence” because it was the only time their arguing couldn’t be heard due to the splashing water. I am seriously considering purchasing one of these for my home.
Today, we are off to The Science Place to allow our children to spread their particular type of uncontrolled mayhem in a place designed to be “fun and educational for the entire family”. You say I’m going into this with the wrong attitude? I say I know this to be a fact based not only on previous performance but from the looks on their faces when they got up this morning.
Wish me luck. And if you don’t hear from me for a while, chances are you’ll hear about it on the evening news eventually.

It won’t be THAT bad. Do like most of the other parents, let them loose, grab a latte and fein interest. Only you’re a great mom. And also it wouldn’t give you anything to write about here. Because I know you’re all about keeping us entertained.
I’ve got the local news queued in case of ‘breaking news’ from your area.
Hahahahaha! Their faces are great! I look like Mr C when I get up in the morning too!
Have fun and good luck!
I am a big fan and proponent of uncontrolled mayhem. Makes life far more interesting.
Are you sure Mr C’s picture wasn’t taken actually at the Science Place, because that is definitely what my son would look like before we would even set foot in the place. xx
Oh my goodness, those faces! You are a lucky woman!
The cone of silence. Can I get one of those?
so…are you keep the shoes or what?
Just 3 more days of family fun then these lovely children are off to school. Then it’s party time!
I say you’re going into it with exactly the correct mentality. If they’re perfect angels, you will be surprised and pleased.
Ah, don’t you love summer break? You don’t have to wake up early but still do of course, and meanwhile the children are so bored they turn into total brats. So relaxing, right? Where does the “break” part come in?
We need an official study. Is there an increased rate of parental suicide, psychiatric incidents, child abuse or neglect, police reports of domestic disturbances the week prior to school’s fall opening?
Because the way it’s looking here right now, I would just bet on one of the above before August 23rd. Especially when it comes to some Yankees transplanted into a month of 100 plus degrees!
Monday, August 23, let’s all raise our wine glasses and bless the teachers and start of school. Maybe we should make that a Bloody Mary or a Mimosa the minute the bus pulls away.
Oof. Ugh. Was it, umm, educational, anyway?
I love my daughter , however , I don not envy you the satycation……..have fun
You haven’t posted since the 19th, is that an indication of how fun and educational went?
I’m working part-time this summer – which means a few days a week I’m home with my boys which is mostly great until they fight. And they fight ALL THE TIME and I yell and lose my cool and SIGH… I think I have given myself high blood pressure!
Anyway we’re doing all the fun stuff to, weekly visits to the museums, water parks, swimming, etc. I am actually sad that summer is almost over, though! How did it go by so fast?
Sometimes I wish I could just plug earphones in all day while I take my kids places just so I don’t have to listen to the bickering. After fifteen years of parenting, my expectations for the “perfect” family vacation are completely non-existent.
Good luck with your staycation! I’ll keep en eye out on the evening news just in case, though.
Staycation.. Corking

Aw, this was a really nice post. In idea I would like to put in writing like this additionally – taking time and actual effort to make a very good article… but what can I say… I procrastinate alot and by no means seem to get something done.
