Cake Monster

by Mary Anne on February 12, 2010

It all started with a dream…

Well, that and a five dollar bet my son made with a boy in his class that he could create a Valentine box that not only looked cool but talked as well.

Blueprints were drawn up:

Parental heads were scratched. Maternal sighs were issued. And somewhere in the background a boy with a dream saw himself losing five bucks out of his piggy bank after witnessing his parents confusion.

But we don’t lose bets around here, oh no siree. So off The Man went in search of supplies.

Hat boxes were painted:

War paint was applied:

Power tools were used:

…and Cake Monster was born.

But wait, not only does he talk….he sings too.

I know one little boy who is about to be five dollars richer.

Happy Valentines Day Y’all!

That rocks! I gave my daughter an old shoe box to decorate for her class Valentine’s Day party. I’m not cool like you guys. ;)

That is GREAT! Good for y’all for having him make good on his bet.

I hope the other kids doesn’t renege on the deal (but I bet he will).

No holds barred when you’re helping your kid win a bet. Hey, I hear you’re getting snow. (tee hee)

A budding engineer. Stock pocket protectors early.

Awesome job! You don’t have to feed it, do you?

How like a little boy not to want it to sing. Great job. What’s he going to spend his $5 bucks on?

That’s a great piece of work he’s put together. I hear Toyota’s looking for a few engineers. I think he’s qualified.

I love Cake Monster! But I love his creator more!

Rocks is right! Worth way more than $5, IMHO. Maybe a new cottage industry at the stilettos? Happy VDay!

And did I forget to mention how gorgeous he is?! Watch out, nothing like a cute engineer who sings to melt the girls’ hearts!

I always tell my girls, don’t overlook the geeks and the math nerds. But your little guy, he’s the total package!

Wondering what he’s creating with all of that snow?

The COOLEST!! Smart and industrious boy!

I would love to see the science fair projects you guys put together for him. That was pretty incredible.

Cake Monster is a great name for a rock band for kids music.

Rock on, little dude!

You realize, of course, he has just raised the bar for Valentine’s Day within his peer group. The other boys will have to up their game!

Wow! That has got to be the hit of the classroom Valentine’s party. Nice job.

That is awesome!

One valentines day I created a box as tall as me that was supposed to resemble a cow….it kind of did….heh

That’s excellent! Here’s to familial teamwork – especially when it comes to keeping money in the piggy-bank!

A heartwarming tale…and I’ll tell you why. 1) Spending time together as a family. 2) Flexing Mr. C’s creative muscle. 3) The most important reason, showing up some other kid at school and winning a bet. No matter the cost. Or how many bottles of paint you go through. Way to go Mr. C.!

I just love how your family was not about to let the little man lost his 5 bucks. We are exactly the same around here. If a challenge is presented, we rise up and win, if it means staying up till all hours to create something almost as cool as Cake Monster. Cause I just don’t think anyone could beat Cake Monster. Love your blog! Subscribe to it and read it faithfully!

Sorry my spelling was so awful. It’s really late here. Forgive my terrible grammar!

23 Nap Warden February 14, 2010 at 4:10 pm

OK…that is AWESOME! Way to win a bet;)

24 The Lawyer Mom February 14, 2010 at 5:42 pm

Whoa! You better patent that monster before Sponge Bob steals him. Seriously!

OMG! This was the first year we didn’t have to do some kind of Valentine box (the kids in my son’s class used bags), and I WAS RELIEVED!! Now, though, I just feel like there’s been some serious slacking off going on in my house for the last seven to 10 years! Power tools?! Heck yes!

26 Beth February 15, 2010 at 10:13 am

How did I have 3 kids and never have to make a Valentine’s Day ANYTHING? We just made cards, so they were probably the sad little kids in class……

As we were walking out the door on Friday, Lauren says:

GASP! My Valentines Box! I don’t have anything!

She spied the shoebox from ShoeDazzle.com sitting on top of the trash, and ran inside to grab scissors and white paper. The resulting box was pretty–the box itself is lovely with pink and purple florals. But yes, your son made this lovely robot-esque Valentine’s Day box with plenty of time, and my daughter grabbed hers out of the freaking trash. I can only laugh.
