The One Where My Daughter Helps Me To Make A Fantastic First Impression At My New Job

by Mary Anne on February 3, 2010

First of all, you read that right…new job! As I mentioned before, I had two great opportunties to choose from and I spent most of the day yesterday making myself physically ill trying to decide. One involved a really nice amount of money, the other, while not quite as lucrative, offered me the chance to stop flying around every week and spend some time with my family and work with some seriously amazing people. In short, it offered me happiness.

I chose happiness.

This morning I got up with a song in my heart (I think it was Kanye) and a spring in my step and proceeded to sign the offer letter they had so professionally put together. I made sure my signature didn’t look like the normal chicken scrawl it normally does. I even typed out a fax cover sheet instead of just jamming it in and pressing send without one like I would usually do. I made sure I looked good on paper when they received my acceptance.

Yeah, about that….

The one thing I didn’t do was check the copier area of my fax machine because why would I? I live an almost paper free existence and couldn’t tell you the last time I actually copied anything.

What I didn’t count on is that a budding young artist in our household, known to all of you as Miss G, had drawn a picture so pretty she felt a need to make duplicate images for her friends.

So now my new employers not only have a neatly executed offer letter from me, they also have some really great art for their cubicles.

I’m awesome at sharing like that.

As if this week could get any better, I’m off to Blissdom tomorrow to see my new boyfriend Harry Connick, Jr. It’s okay, The Man knows all about my plans to woo Harry and has even agreed to participate in a Wife Swap if things work out. Updates to come shortly on any possible restraining order activity that may occur while I’m there!

Awesome on the new job! Remember what I said about Harry! If you can make him call out “Sprite’s Keeper” at his Ft Myers concert, I will yell back “Stiletto!” See that I won’t! And if you can sneak him a kiss for me, I’d be much obliged.. :-)

Stoopid interwebz, didn’t let me finish my comment.

As I was saying, again – I envy you. I wish I had the option; I suppose in this economy I should be grateful I have a well-paying job (even if I loathe it with every fiber in my being).

So, have the called you and asked that you do all their marketing artwork as well?

Sending Miss G’s art work shows creativity and free spirited joi de vivre. I’m sure that is just what they are looking for.

Mary Anne I’m so happy for you, and your family. Choosing happiness! Good move.

You’re at Blissdom?!? I wish I could be there. It’s amazing how nervous I get at the thought of attending a conference. Too shy.

I’d be the one standing alone in the corner. That’s all I can picture.

I hope your presentation will be on YouTube!

Have an amazing time. You’re going to be fantastic!!!

Congrats Girl! I hope you popped a cork to celebrate. And as for Miss G’s artwork transmittal? Well that’s just freakin’ hilarious!

That is awesome! And congrats on the new job. Sounds like you made the right decision. And that is so cute that they got a little piece of your daughters artwork.

Found your blog through VodkaMoms blogroll. Glad I did. I am now a subscriber.

New job? Fantastic. Paper-free existence? Amazing.

I bet that’s the fanciest acceptance letter they’ve ever received.

Hey, it’s nice to have the support of the family, even if it takes the form of crayons and paper.

18 Jenny Fast February 4, 2010 at 12:58 pm

Of course The Man has offered to participate in the Wife Swap… HCJ is married to Jill Goodacre! I’d still do it… everyone wins. :)

19 Connie @ Young and Relentless February 5, 2010 at 6:57 am

I love it! Hilarious. And totally something that would happen to me.

But you didn’t say what the job IS. I hope that’s not going ot be some anonymous thing… You can at least provide a little info on industry… I’m curious.

21 The Lawyer Mom February 7, 2010 at 12:45 am

If Miss G is your alter ego, my friend, you’ve got absolutely nothing to worry about! Congrats. Now the fun begins.

XOXO

I’d be inclined to permit with you on this. Which is not something I typically do! I really like reading a post that will make people think. Also, thanks for allowing me to speak my mind!

This post appears to get a large ammount of visitors. How do you get traffic to it? It gives a nice individual spin on things. I guess having something authentic or substantial to give info on is the most important factor.
