NoH8

by Mary Anne on January 22, 2010

Listen, anyone who has been around her for a while knows I’m a Republican. But here’s the thing, fiscally, I am hard core right…socially, I fall a little left of center. Maybe a lot left of the center.  I am a big believer in the NoH8 movement.   It’s not my job to judge how people love eachother…it’s not yours either.

And today I was  amazed and  proud of Cindy McCain for doing this ad:

It took my breath away.

Aside from the fact that this is possibly one of the most beautiful and powerful images I’ve seen in a while (the white, the duct tape, the blue eyes), she had the nerve to stand against her husbands public policy of discrimination.

I was not a fan of John McCain in the election.  I liked her even less…

Today, I like her a whole lot more.

It’s not my business to tell people who they can spend the rest of their lives with…and to be honest, again…it’s not yours either.

We need to stop legislating hate and we need to stop it now.

Cindy McCain, you will never see this…but I am so proud of you for standing up.

NoH8!

She was actually one of the few people in the cast of characters during the campaign I found intriguing.

I figured there was more to her than what the campaign allowed to be seen.

Speak on sista! I am proud of her too…what a great message she’s putting out there.

3 Keely January 22, 2010 at 8:04 pm

Good for her!

As always, I wonder why in the hell people CARE how other people live their lives. Really, what a waste of emotional energy.

(clapclapclap)

Well said, m’lady! It is really no one’s business…but our own. Salute!

Amen, sister.

Oh, how I wish I knew how to post a link here.

Theodore Olson, the arch conservative who defended Bush and just argued for “People United” in front of the S. Court (the campaign finance case just handed down yesterday) is representing the two gay couples in the Prop 8 trial in California, together with David Boise (who rep’d Gore).

He makes a compelling and CONSERVATIVE argument in favor of striking down Prop 8 in the latest issue of Newsweek. Read it when you get a chance.

Here’s my best effort at posting the link: http://www.newsweek.com/id/229957

I’m so proud of her too! In my opinion discrimination should never have a place in political discourse, and I applaud those who are brave enough to take a stand against it.

That is an amazing image! WTG Cindy!!! And the airbrush man ain’t bad either!!!

I could care less who marries whom. I’m designated a ‘Republican’. I feel I’m more of a Constitutionarian, Libertarian … whatever. Work hard, pray hard, live hard, die hard!

In the meantime … there’s no reason people shouldn’t be able to find happiness with whomever they can!

Did you know she also participates in drift racing. That alone makes her cooler than other political wives.

WOW! What an amazingly powerful image this is! A picture truly is worth a thousand words…

11 justmakingourway January 23, 2010 at 7:45 am

That is awesome. Three cheers to Cindy!

12 Michele January 23, 2010 at 7:59 am

On this we agree! Nice going Cindy.

13 lisa January 23, 2010 at 8:45 am

with ya. and i lean hard to the left. still love this. hated cindy during the election. now i might love her.

I didn’t mind Cindy but was not a fan of her husband. This is great. People need to see that discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated, and hopefully we will get some change in 2010

15 Becky January 23, 2010 at 9:29 am

Good for her!

16 Becca January 23, 2010 at 9:36 am

Yeah! Go Cindy!! I can’t imagine how much strife it caused in her home, but I am so proud of her for it!!

17 abdpbt January 23, 2010 at 9:47 am

I was really impressed by that, too. Very cool!

18 Janie January 23, 2010 at 10:17 am

I love this, seriously.

19 Cassie January 23, 2010 at 10:20 am

I came across this picture this morning.

Took my breath away as well.

I think there are a lot more issues that people should concern themselves with instead of this. Way too many issues. It is like busting some one for J walking when there is an armed robbery going down 5 feet away.

21 Lynn @ human, being January 23, 2010 at 11:23 pm

I love this campaign.

22 MommyNamedApril January 24, 2010 at 5:34 pm

I was very happy to see this on Fox too… it really upsets me that most people assume Republican = narrow minded hate monger. Seriously, people… I just want my money is all…

23 Connie @ Young and Relentless January 25, 2010 at 7:42 am

I love her and now I love her more. Thanks for sharing this because I’m sure I never would have seen it otherwise.

24 MommyLisa January 25, 2010 at 9:09 am

Amazing. Bravo for admitting your stance is not black & white…too bad there is not a party for this viewpoint!

25 Michele January 25, 2010 at 12:28 pm

Not only do I agree with her stance, I love that she is her own person and not keeping quiet for the sake of supporting her husband’s political views. I’ve never understood why husbands and wives are expected to agree politically or it is some disloyal scandal. Sigh.

I, too, am a fiscal conservative and social liberal…which means supporting “traditional” candidates from either party is a real pain-in-the-heinie.

26 Suzy Voices January 25, 2010 at 2:04 pm

This is SO awesome!! Thanks for sharing!

27 Captain Dumbass January 25, 2010 at 9:12 pm

I’m not gay and I don’t actually know any gay people, but I’m proud that I live somewhere that doesn’t discriminate against who can marry who. Good for her.

28 blissfully caffeinated January 26, 2010 at 10:02 am

That’s shocking to me. I loathed her during the election and would never have imagined that she would do something that flies in the face of everything that the republican party stands for right now. Courageous. And, like you said, a beautiful image.

29 The Mother January 26, 2010 at 12:30 pm

I think we need to start a new party–fiscal Republicans with left leaning social policies.

I hate getting left out of everything.

30 Emtenster January 27, 2010 at 5:01 pm

I am just like you and guess what? Most Republican women I know are fiscally conservative and socially left of the democratic party. Media doesn’t like to like to share this fact, though. I know Cindy and I would expect this about her. And, she DOES read blogs, so she may read this after all!

31 Liz February 1, 2010 at 8:09 am

Proud of her, and proud of you for putting it out there.

32 The gold digger February 6, 2010 at 9:41 am

Yes! I get so tired of being pigeonholed as mean and “intolerant.” Do what you want in your own bedroom. I don’t care. Every couple should have rights of inheritance. Whatever. Have three (of age) wives. Just don’t commit tax fraud. I really do not care. Really.

BUT QUIT TAXING THE HELL OUT ME FOR SOCIAL PROGRAMS THAT DON’T WORK AND DON’T TRY TO RUN MY LIFE.
