Apparently It Runs In The Family

by Mary Anne on December 21, 2008

It’s that magical time of year. The kids are out of school, work is winding down and everyone is on their best behavior for the final few days before Christmas lest Santa find out someone has been naughty. We did a lot together this weekend, had friends over, finished shopping and did a lot of rapping, yo. Wait…no. I meant wrapping. Anyway.

One thing that is a sure fire hit with kids everywhere is making crafts. We found some old stuff from a Christmas party a long time ago and Miss G decided she wanted to make home-made gifts for everyone this year. She hid herself away with a bag full of letters and decorations and Elmer’s glue. She worked diligently and quietly making gifts for her brother, her Dad and me. She was so excited she couldn’t wait to give mine to me. She ran out of the room and came back with this:

She was so proud of herself it almost made me cry. This is the kind of stuff I’ll hang on to forever. But wait! She loves me so much she made two.

Not to be outdone by her potty mouthed brother, Miss G proudly presented me with this:

Aww..thanks honey, but that last part may have been uncalled for.

Aw. We had an early Xmas dinner for SL’s side of the family because we’re spending Xmas with my family this year. We let the kids open a few presents and Liam (3) remembered to give us our present that he’d made in pre-school. Can’t say the same for the greedy older scrooge-monkey.

Now, I know you are not a HO since they can not afford the christian lewy shoes.

Oh, how sweet! I love the crafties! What a perfect gift.
PS- C’mon, show us her full artistic talents! :)

Hee. I love the ho, ho, ho thing around this time of year. I can’t help but snicker every time. Because I’m a thirteen year old boy in disguise!

Aw, she probably got tired from trying to spell out “homey”, from all that rapping, dawg.

7 Jim December 21, 2008 at 8:50 pm

Lol. As long as you’re not covering up the word “biscuit” I think you’re in the clear.

aw–sweet. for the children of a Ho, that is

9 bex December 21, 2008 at 9:08 pm

in your family does that put her on the naughty list? because in my family she would have been crowned queen and everyone would have to take turns carrying her around on our backs.

10 Michelle December 21, 2008 at 9:18 pm

Well now I’m really curious…

It’s nice that you have a mature enough relationship with your daughter that she can call you a ho affectionately.

It was affectionately, right?

It’s the whole Rudolph financial crisis issue you wrote of on my blog. She’s just confused. ;)

Cute cards! My son brought home Christmas art projects from school. They were supposedly for me, but he imediately pulled all of the shiny bits off and stuffed them into a little egg that he likes to carry around everywhere he goes. Now, I have varied shaped pieces of construction paper with glue spots on them. Thanks, son!

So cute! I need some crafts for my kids to do this week since I think I might just leave them with Santa on Christmas Eve if they don’t stop the fighting! : )

14 tattooedminivanmom December 21, 2008 at 11:27 pm

Yes! I love it! Censored Xmas crafts. Tis the season.

15 Casey December 21, 2008 at 11:38 pm

If the stocking fits…

Heheheh. Ok, you’re not a ho but it was FUNNY!

16 vodkamom December 22, 2008 at 5:31 am

Thanks for making me laugh so hard this morning I spit my coffee out — and it was good coffee, too!

Awesome!! And hysterical. My son’s school had a holiday “store” where the kids could get presents for their families. He was so excited he made us all open them as soon as he got home (and this was two weeks ago!) Gotta love it!

That’s so sweet – she recognizes your work as a legimate profession.

Oh, wait – that’s not you – thought I was on another blog!

Oh well.

Thing 1 brought home the sweetest card on which he wrote his name on the front and Mom and Dad on the inside. He decorated it with a little foam snowflake. It was his first time to write all this stuff and it was adorable! (No mention of a ho, though.)

Thing 2 says “Ho Ho Ho” when you ask what Santa says. He’s not ready for the F-bomb quite yet, but I’ll be teaching him that to say when he sees fake boobs.

(Sorry to any of you with fake boobs – it was just a joke.)

She’s so creative and sweet… and maybe a bit too honest for her own good?
If I don’t talk to you again before Thursday, Merry Christmas, dear friend!!!

21 Mama Dawg December 22, 2008 at 8:55 am

So, THAT’S how you were able to afford the shoes. Gotcha!

22 pamela from the dayton time December 22, 2008 at 9:05 am

Ah, creativity at its best. Children are wonders.

23 Petra December 22, 2008 at 10:54 am

Adorable! I love it!

I got a handmade card for Christmas from my stepson who wrote “You are my favorite mom.” (which actually means something in this case cause he has two–I win!!!)

24 Krystal December 22, 2008 at 11:21 am

You must be so proud,a nother potty mouth. Heck, at leat she was creative about it

25 goodfather December 22, 2008 at 1:15 pm

After I cleaned the coffee off my monitor, I read Sprite Keeper’s comment, and snorted a second nostril-full all over my keyboard.

My nose hurts. Merry Christmas!

That is so something I will do one day.

29 Victoria December 22, 2008 at 7:35 pm

Oh! That is so sweet! I just love homemade presents from my son. I wish I could keep all of the pictures he draws me, but, alas, I would be drowning in a sea of paper if that were the case. What an awesome memory to have!

30 Sammanthia December 22, 2008 at 7:36 pm

This is the second post I’ve read today that involved a craft… dude, you’re making me look bad.

31 HeatherPride December 22, 2008 at 8:06 pm

Ha!! A for effort, though, right?

32 Sasha December 22, 2008 at 10:15 pm

33 Lawyer Mom December 23, 2008 at 12:51 am

Innocence sucks. Elf me. I’m too elfing wholesome and have only my mother to blame. But truth be told, I am just not getting this Ho Ho entendre thing.

34 Wendy December 23, 2008 at 7:15 am

That’s hilarious! Did you laugh or gasp in horror when she gave it to you? I’m so scared that I won’t be able to contain my laughter when Blair starts doing inappropriate yet cute little things…

35 Miquel Munk June 10, 2011 at 1:42 pm

I’d come to allow with you here. Which is not something I usually do! I really like reading a post that will make people think. Also, thanks for allowing me to comment!
